166 Stolen Vehicles in Guelph So Far This Year

As car thefts remain a concern in Guelph and across Ontario, there is hope that a substantial investment of nearly $860,000 from the provincial government will help reduce this issue locally and contribute to lowering these incidents.

This funding is a segment of a larger, three-year commitment by the province, totaling $18 million, aimed at enabling police services to effectively tackle and prevent vehicle theft.

Up to November 29, Guelph has experienced 166 vehicle thefts this year, compared to 259 reported for the entire year of 2022.

Guelph police spokesperson Scott Tracey commented, “These grant funds will assist in the much-needed enhancement of our prevention, education, and enforcement efforts to address the increasing volume and sophistication of auto theft crimes, and related violent crimes, occurring in our community.”

He further added, “These grant funds will provide for an enhanced level of service which would have been impossible given current resourcing levels and will assist in leveraging the expertise and collaboration of numerous enforcement partners across the region and province to support our citizens.”
