A Guelph man faces impaired driving charges following a traffic stop Monday afternoon.Â
Approximately 1:30 p.m. police were advised of an intoxicated male leaving an address on Woolwich Street in his vehicle. Two hours later the vehicle was located at a business on Woodlawn Road West and a male was seen entering the driver’s seat.
A traffic stop was conducted and officers detected a strong smell of alcoholic beverage on his breath. After failing a roadside test the male was returned to the police station, where further testing confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system. Investigation revealed the male was prohibited from driving due to an earlier impaired driving conviction.
A 60-year-old Guelph male is charged with impaired driving and driving while prohibited. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was seized. He will appear in a Guelph court September 12, 2023.
