A Guelph male faces impaired driving and drug charges after he was found passed out in his running vehicle Monday afternoon.
Approximately 2:40 p.m. police were called to Riverview Drive and Wolseley Road where they found a driver asleep behind the wheel. When officers woke the male he took his foot off the brake causing the car to roll forward before he was able to put it into park.
Officers observed drug paraphernalia in the male’s lap and saw signs of impairment. The male was arrested and a search revealed a baggie containing suspected fentanyl. The male was examined by a trained officer who concluded his ability to operate a vehicle was impaired.
A 38-year-old Guelph male is charged with impaired operation and possessing a controlled substance. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was seized for seven days. He will appear in court October 24.
The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to always consume alcohol and cannabis responsibly. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home. Anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver is asked to immediately call 911.
