A bold overnight break-in at a Southgate Drive business has left staff stunned, after thieves allegedly scaled the roof, dropped in through a hatch, and made off with tens of thousands of dollars in copper.
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after copper wire valued at $40,000 or more was stolen from a south-end business.
Just after 7 a.m. Thursday police were dispatched to a business on Southgate Drive after staff arrived and observed an exit door had been propped open with a heavy spool of wire. Investigation revealed suspects had gained entry through a hatch on the roof and climbed down ropes to enter the business.
Several spools of copper wire and bundles of copper strips were stolen. A company official estimated the loss at $40,000 or more.
The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Constable Kelly Uskin at 519-824-1212, ext. 7599, email kuskin@guelphpolice.ca, leave an anonymous message for Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or leave an anonymous tip online at www.csgw.tips.
