Arrest After Man Attacked by Stranger

A Guelph man faces assault and weapons charges after another man was attacked by a stranger Thursday.

The victim was outside a business near Edinburgh Road South and Water Street approximately 9:30 a.m. when he was approached by a male unknown to him. The pair were involved in a brief verbal altercation before the victim was struck three times in the face and fell to the ground.

He was going to follow his assailant, but the other man opened his jacket suggesting he had a weapon. He was located by officers a short distance away and a large kitchen knife found in his pocket.

A 30-year-old Guelph man is charged with assault, carrying a concealed weapon and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He will appear in court April 5.
