Arson Charge After Guelph Downtown Mall Fire
A Guelph man faces an arson charge after a fire was deliberately set inside Old Quebec Street Shoppes Friday.
Approximately 8:40 a.m. emergency services were called to the downtown mall. A male known to security staff was inside the mall when he set fire to debris inside a metal trash can and walked away. Staff were able to extinguish the fire, which created a significant amount of smoke inside the mall. No injuries were reported.
Approximately 90 minutes later the responsible male was located downtown and arrested. Investigation revealed he is currently on four different probation orders.
A 28-year-old Guelph man is charged with arson and four counts of breaching probation. He was held for a bail hearing Monday.
