Attempted Bank Fraud

A Scarborough male was arrested Wednesday after someone tried to open a bogus bank account in Guelph.

Just after 3 p.m. police were called by staff at a west-end bank. A male in the branch was attempting to open an account, but staff were suspicious of the documents being offered.

Officers arrived as the male was exiting. Investigation revealed the documents, which were not in the male’s name, were fake. A 38-year-old Scarborough male is charged with uttering a forged document. He will appear in a Guelph court July 4, 2023.
