A Cambridge man has pleaded guilty to sexual assault causing bodily harm and forcible confinement following an attack on a woman in Guelph in March 2025.

Trevor Bettschen, 47, entered the pleas Friday in the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph. He remains in custody. A sentencing date has not been set.

The court heard that the woman, whose identity is protected by a publication ban, encountered Bettschen in a parking lot on Willow Road during the early morning hours of March 14, 2025. She got into his vehicle, and they drove to the rear of a shopping plaza on Silvercreek Parkway.

According to the facts read in court, the woman got out of the vehicle and began walking away. Bettschen grabbed her from behind, lifted her off the ground and forced her into the back of the vehicle, where the seats had been folded down and a blanket was laid out.

The court heard that Bettschen covered the woman’s mouth as she screamed. He pulled down her pants and underwear and sexually assaulted her with his fingers. The encounter lasted approximately six minutes.

The woman escaped through a rear passenger door with her clothing around her ankles and one shoe missing. She went to a nearby friend’s home and later received treatment at a hospital.

The area was monitored by a surveillance camera that recorded audio. The video is expected to be played in court at a later date.

Guelph police located Bettschen’s vehicle at his workplace the following day and arrested him there.
