Carden St Apartment Set on Fire, Male Charged with Arson

A Guelph male is charged with arson following a fire Tuesday morning at a downtown apartment building.

Emergency crews were called approximately 10:20 a.m. to an apartment building on Carden Street, where a fire had been reported in a second-floor hallway.

The fire was quickly extinguished by Guelph Fire Department personnel. No injuries were reported. The incident was captured on surveillance video.

Approximately 11:50 a.m. firefighters alerted police officers they believed the responsible male had returned to the scene. A 42-year-old Guelph male is charged with arson causing damage to property, arson with disregard for human life and breaching probation. He was held for a bail hearing Thursday.
