Charges for False Claim of Stolen Vehicle

Listen to this article

A Guelph male was arrested Thursday after falsely reporting his vehicle had been stolen earlier this month.

On August 19, a male called the Guelph Police Service to report his vehicle had been stolen five days earlier from an address on Dawson Road and had since been involved in a hit and run collision outside the city.

On August 20, officers located the vehicle parked where the male claimed he last saw it and observed fresh damage. A review of video surveillance revealed the vehicle had not moved during the time the male claimed it was stolen.

A 33-year-old Guelph male was arrested Thursday and charged with public mischief. He will appear in a Guelph court October 6, 2023.
