City of Guelph’s Updated Outside Water Use By-law Takes Effect

The City of Guelph has announced that its updated Outside Water Use By-law is now in effect following approval by city council last week.

According to the city, the revised program introduces a two-level system for outside water use between April and October each year. The city will determine whether Guelph is operating under Level 1 (Standard) or Level 2 (Elevated) water use restrictions, with each level outlining how and when residents can use water for outdoor activities such as watering lawns and gardens.

The city says the updated system is intended to make the Outside Water Use Program more straightforward and easier for residents to follow.

In information shared by the city, officials state the two-level approach is designed to help reduce strain on Guelph’s water infrastructure during the warmer, drier months, when demand for water is highest.

Residents can visit the city’s water webpage to review the updated program, learn the current restriction level, and apply for a watering permit if one is required.

The updated by-law is now in effect.
