Downtown Church Targeted in Overnight Vandalism, One Arrested

A Guelph man faces mischief charges after causing more than $5,000 in damage to a downtown church property.
Approximately 1 a.m. Tuesday a man attended the church and pulled forcibly on the front doors until a piece broke off. He then went to a house on the same property and removed plastic tubing creating a hole into the basement. He placed a garden hose through the hole and turned it on, causing more than an inch of water to pool in the basement before it was discovered.
The home’s internet and telephone cables were also cut.
The suspect was caught on security camera. A 32-year-old Guelph man has been arrested for mischief over $5,000 and mischief under $5,000. He will appear in court September 16.
