The primary location of the Guelph Public Library had to shut down at 1 p.m. on Tuesday due to an incident that led to a fatality. According to a spokesperson for the police, the incident is not currently considered suspicious.
“We did respond shortly before 11:30 a.m. today along with EMS and Guelph Fire. A male was located in medical distress and transported to the hospital, where unfortunately he was pronounced deceased,” conveyed police spokesperson Scott Tracey.
“At this point I am not aware of any reason to consider it suspicious and I believe the coroner will be taking over the investigation.”
Patrons were unable to access library hold requests and scheduled programs during the closure. However, all other library branches continued to operate as usual. Emergency vehicles, including three police cars and an ambulance, were present at the site at 1 p.m. but had left by around 1:30 p.m.
The library branch is anticipated to resume its regular hours starting at 9 a.m. the following day.
