Drive-thru Staff Alerts Police of Impaired Driver

A Guelph man is charged with impaired driving after alert drive-through staff at an east-end business called police early Wednesday.

Approximately 3:25 a.m. staff at a business near Victoria Road South and York Road called police about a possibly impaired driver. Officers arrived a short time later and observed the man driving over two orange pylons to enter a parking space.

While speaking to the driver, officers noted a strong odour of alcohol on his breath and other signs of impairment. After failing a roadside breath test he was arrested and transported to the police station, where further tests confirmed he had more than twice the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

A 63-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving. His license was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court September 9.

The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to always consume alcohol and cannabis responsibly. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home. Anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver is asked to immediately call 911.
