Driver Who Fled RIDE Arrested on Multiple Charges

A motorist who fled from a RIDE spot check on the weekend has been arrested.

Approximately 12:05 a.m. Saturday, Guelph Police Service officers were set up near Gordon Street and Waterloo Avenue when an officer spoke to the driver of a white SUV and detected an odour of alcohol. The driver was asked to pull to the side of the road to conduct a breath test, but instead sped away.

Another officer patrolling in the area saw the SUV running several stop lights and nearly colliding with other vehicles. The driver was identified through investigation and known to officers from previous interactions.

On Tuesday a 28-year-old Guelph man turned himself in to police. He is charged with flight from police, dangerous driving, driving while suspended and driving without a permit. He was released on conditions including a ban on occupying the driver’s seat of a vehicle. He will appear in court April 24.
