
Driving Complaints Lead to Impaired Charges

Two Guelph residents face impaired driving charges following unrelated driving complaints on the weekend.
Just after 8 p.m. Friday, police were notified of a possible impaired driver leaving a licensed establishment near Stone Road West and Edinburgh Road South. A vehicle was located in the area and stopped.
Officers detected an odour of alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath. He failed a roadside breath test and was transported to the police station, where further investigation confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
A 28-year-old Guelph male is charged with impaired driving. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in a Guelph court June 2, 2023.
Sunday, approximately 7:35 p.m., police were notified of a possible impaired driver in the area of Speedvale Avenue East and Metcalfe Street. The vehicle was located and officers spoke to the driver, who was unsteady on her feet and had a strong odour of alcoholic beverage on her breath.
She was placed under arrest and transported to the police station, where testing confirmed she had more than the legal amount of alcohol in her system.
A 27-year-old Guelph female is charged with impaired driving and breach of probation. Her licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. She will appear in a Guelph court June 6, 2023.
The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to always consume alcohol and cannabis responsibly. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home. Anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver is asked to immediately call 911.
