Drug Charges After Stolen Car Located

A man and woman face drug and other charges after police located a stolen car in Guelph Monday.

Approximately 12:45 p.m. officers were patrolling when they found a 2020 Nissan parked near Waterloo Avenue and St. Arnaud Street. The vehicle had been reported stolen Sunday from Belleville.

Officers conducted surveillance on the car and a short time later saw a woman approach with several bags. She was unable to access the vehicle and left her bags on the ground, returning a short time later with a man who had the car key in his possession. Both were placed under arrest.

During searches incident to arrest officers located quantities of suspected fentanyl, crystal methamphetamine and cocaine as well as cash and drug paraphernalia.

A 36-year-old Guelph man and 32-year-old woman of no fixed address are each charged with occupying a stolen vehicle, possessing stolen property over $5,000, three counts of possessing controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking and breaching probation. They were held for bail hearings Tuesday.
