Employee Poked in Eye During Robbery

A Guelph male faces robbery and other charges after an employee at a business was poked in the eye during an altercation.

Just after 6 p.m. Friday police were called to a business near Woodlawn Road East and Woolwich Street. A male had entered the business and demanded to be given cigarettes while holding a bottle over his head. When the clerk refused, the male jumped over the counter and poked the clerk in the eye with his finger, causing redness and swelling, and fled with several packages of cigarettes.

The male was located by responding officers a short distance away and arrested.

A 26-year-old Guelph male is charged with robbery, mischief under $5,000 and breaching probation. He was held for a bail hearing and has been released to appear in a Guelph court July 14, 2023.
