A routine Friday evening patrol quickly escalated when an officer noticed a pickup swerving through a busy south-end intersection. What happened next revealed just how dangerous one driver’s choices had become.

A Guelph man is charged with impaired driving following a traffic stop Friday evening.

Just after 7 p.m. an officer was patrolling near Gordon Street and Arkell Road when he saw a pickup being driven erratically. The truck was pulled over and the officer immediately detected a strong odour of alcohol and could see open and sealed cans of beer inside.

The driver was arrested and transported to the police station, where tests revealed he had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
