Fake Gun in Vehicle Draws Real Response

Listen to this article

Residents are reminded to be cautious with replica firearms, after a fake gun attracted a very real police response Tuesday.

Just after 2 p.m. the Guelph Police Service was called to an apartment building on Speedvale Avenue East after a male walking past a parked car saw what he believed to be a black handgun lying on the back seat.

Several officers responded to the call. The owner of the vehicle was quickly located and the gun was determined to be a real-looking replica.

Police responding to reports of possible firearms will always assume the device is real until proven otherwise. Residents are strongly urged not to possess such items in situations where they could be mistaken for a real firearm.

No charges were laid in Tuesday’s incident.

The photo below shows a real police-issued Glock firearm (pink background) versus a replica of the same firearm seized during an unrelated investigation.
