Listen to this article

A Guelph female was arrested Sunday morning after causing a gas leak which forced several homes to be evacuated.

Approximately 9:45 a.m. police were called to the area of Burns Drive and Nicklin Road for a suspicious person and located a female hiding in a backyard.

While speaking to the female, officers detected a strong odour of natural gas and could hear hissing from the home’s gas meter. Several homes in the area were immediately evacuated until the scene could be deemed safe.

Investigation revealed the gas meter had been repeatedly struck with golf clubs, causing several dents and a three-centimeter puncture.

A 39-year-old female, who is known to the homeowners, is charged with mischief endangering life. She was held for a bail hearing Monday.
