Approximately 1:30 p.m. police were called for a report of a firearm being discharged inside a residence near York Road and Harris Street. Nearby residents were advised to shelter in place as members of the Guelph Police Service Tactics and Rescue Unit contained the house.
After approximately two hours of negotiation a male was taken into custody. No physical injuries were reported. A shotgun and nearly 50 rounds of ammunition were later recovered.
A 50-year-old Guelph man is charged with careless use of a firearm, recklessly discharging a firearm, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and unsafe storage of ammunition. He was held for a bail hearing Thursday.
