Firefighters from Five Stations Respond to Willow Road Apartment Fire

A Thursday evening fire at a Willow Road apartment building has left several Guelph residents displaced, though officials say no injuries were reported. The incident was first shared locally in the Caught in Guelph (and Area) community, where the post quickly drew widespread attention and concern from residents.

A Thursday evening apartment fire in Guelph’s west end has left 11 residents unable to return home. The incident gained significant attention locally after Henok Bereket first shared it in the Caught in Guelph (and Area) community. The post has since generated more than 1,200 reactions, hundreds of comments, and hundreds of shares from community members.

Emergency crews were called to an apartment building on Willow Road shortly before 5:30 p.m., with firefighters from five stations responding. When firefighters arrived, they found a fire involving a third-floor apartment. Crews were able to prevent the flames from spreading beyond the original unit, and no injuries were reported.

The apartment where the fire occurred suffered extensive damage. Two neighbouring units below were also impacted due to water damage from the firefighting response. Officials have not yet released information on the cause of the fire or the estimated value of the damage.

Support was provided to affected residents through victim services, while responsibility for the building has since been returned to property management.

Guelph Fire officials said the building’s smoke alarms were functioning during the emergency and are reminding residents about the importance of checking smoke and carbon monoxide alarms regularly. Residents are also encouraged to have a plan in place in case they need to leave their home quickly during an emergency.
