GUELPH, ON – Zoom zoom! This past Saturday, the Guelph CVI Electric Vehicle team, in partnership with Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM), competed at the University of Waterloo EV Challenge. Preparation for this event had been taking place since September.

GCVI placed first place in the 12V category; Riley Z and Ben H were the drivers. It was a close race right to the finish, giving GCVI its first ever first place victory in this competition.

GCVI also finished a solid third place in a very competitive 24V race; the drivers were Austin B and Shelby M.

In both races, the GCVI Pit Crew worked diligently to keep the electrical vehicles running.

The electrical car program at GCVI is a significant part of the GCVI Manufacturing program, which has a focus on STEM in manufacturing supporting student opportunities in engineering and design. The GCVI electrical vehicle is designed and fabricated by the students at GCVI from start to finish.

Mr. Lyle and Mr. Hammett are super proud of everyone on the team from pit crew, the design and fabrication team, drivers and electrical specialists. This has been GCVI’s most successful result to date. Way to go GAELS!
