A simple birthday wish turned into an unforgettable celebration in Guelph this weekend after an outpouring of support from the community and local police.
Earlier in the day, Caught in Guelph (and Area) member Joycelyn Benoit posted online asking if anyone with a “really cool car” might be able to drive by Cassino and Hadati around 2:30 p.m. to help lift the spirits of her nephew, Hammy, who was celebrating his seventh birthday. Many of the children he invited could not attend, and his family hoped for a surprise to make the day special.
The response from the community was overwhelming. Dozens of people answered the call, showing up with their vehicles to create a unique birthday parade for the young boy.
The celebration went a step further when the Guelph Police Service got involved. Officers not only called Hammy’s mother directly but arrived in a full line of cruisers, lights flashing, and presented him with a gift.

What began as a disappointed child’s birthday quickly transformed into a community-wide celebration. The event highlighted both the generosity of Guelph residents and the willingness of local police to go beyond the call of duty to bring joy to a child.
Hammy’s seventh birthday will now be remembered not for who couldn’t attend, but for the overwhelming kindness of those who did.
