Guelph Male Arrested After Standoff

Earlier today it was reported that there were heavy police presence at William St and Grange St.

A Guelph male faces assault and threats charges following a neighbour dispute which prompted a nearly two-hour standoff with police Friday morning.

Approximately 9:15 a.m. a male called police to report an altercation with his housemate at an east-end residence. A verbal argument escalated until one male threw a chair at the other and then brandished a kitchen knife. The victim sustained a minor injury and was able to leave the residence and call for help.

Police arrived a short time later to find the other male had barricaded himself in a bedroom. After nearly two hours of negotiation, officers entered the bedroom and were able to arrest the male without injury.

A 29-year-old Guelph male is charged with two counts each of assault with a weapon and uttering threats. He was held for a bail hearing.
