A Guelph man faces robbery and weapons charges after a shingler’s hammer was brandished Monday morning during a theft from a business near downtown.
Approximately 11:20 a.m. police were called to a business near Gordon Street and Wellington Street. A man had entered the business while waving a hammer in the air. He stole a bottle of alcohol and walked out while continuing to wave the hammer.
Police located the man a short distance away and observed he was holding the hammer and a metal pipe. He was placed under arrest, and during a search officers located a second hammer, several knives, a plastic BB gun and two small knives with exposed blades attached to a necklace under his clothes.
A 25-year-old Guelph man is charged with robbery, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon and unauthorized possession of a weapon. He was held for a bail hearing Tuesday.
