Peavey Industries LP, the parent company of Peavey Mart, has announced the closure of all its Canadian retail locations and has filed for creditor protection under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA). This decision affects 90 Peavey Mart stores and six MainStreet Hardware locations nationwide.
The company cited several factors contributing to this outcome, including record-low consumer confidence, rising operating costs, and ongoing supply chain disruptions. These challenges have significantly impacted the retail sector, leading to this difficult decision.
Doug Anderson, President and CEO of Peavey Industries LP, stated, “This was a profoundly difficult decision, but one that allows us to explore the best possible alternatives for the future of the company.”
The company has initiated liquidation sales at all affected locations, including the store on Silvercreek Parkway North in Guelph. While a specific closure date has not been announced, the sales are underway as part of the winding-down process.
Peavey Mart’s history dates back to 1967 when it was established in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, under the name National Farmway. The company has been a staple in Canadian retail, particularly in the farm and hardware sectors.
This development follows a previous announcement where the company planned to close 22 stores in Ontario and Nova Scotia by the end of April. However, the decision has now been extended to include all locations across Canada.
The closures mark a significant shift in the Canadian retail landscape, particularly for communities that have relied on Peavey Mart for agricultural and hardware supplies. The company is working to manage the closure process while exploring potential opportunities to preserve the Peavey brand.
Customers are encouraged to take advantage of the ongoing liquidation sales, as the company winds down its operations across the country.
