Guelph Police Track Stolen Vehicle, Driver Escapes

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after the driver of a stolen vehicle fled Tuesday evening when an officer tried to stop him.
Just before 6 p.m. an officer was patrolling near Paisley Road and Edinburgh Road South when the cruiser’s automated licence plate reader alerted him to a stolen vehicle going the other way.
The officer turned around and approximately 10 minutes later located the Toyota Scion parked on a nearby street. A short time later two males approached the car with one getting into the driver’s seat. As the officer approached the driver quickly reversed the car, spun around and took off.
He was not pursued in the interest of public safety, however the officer was able to identify the driver based on previous involvement. The investigation is ongoing.
