Guelph Resident Stabbed in Early-Morning Break-Ins

A confrontation on a Guelph driveway escalated into a violent struggle that nearly turned fatal. As police tracked down the suspects, the homeowner later shared a detailed account that revealed just how close he came to losing his life.

A Guelph resident was seriously injured after confronting two people committing break-ins on his property.

Police say that just before 4 a.m., a homeowner on Stuart Street spotted two individuals inside a vehicle parked in his driveway. When he approached and detained the male suspect on the lawn while calling for help, the female suspect produced a switchblade-style knife and stabbed him once in the chest. Both suspects fled but were located shortly afterward with the assistance of a police dog and arrested.

The victim later described the event, saying the confrontation occurred around 3:30 a.m. In his account, he wrote that the knife pierced three layers of clothing and entered his right chest but was stopped by his ribs approximately one inch from a major artery. He also stated that additional cuts did not result in major injury.

The victim said his faith played a central role in how he experienced the incident. He said he felt “no pain or fear” during the confrontation and believed he was protected by God, Jesus Christ and angels. He explained that he verbally called on the name of Jesus while confronting the suspects and credited his survival entirely to his faith. He also referenced Luke 11:21, which speaks about a strong man guarding his home.

When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are undisturbed.

He said he and his family held the suspects until police were arriving, then released them before officers tracked them down in a nearby yard along with stolen items and crystal meth.
