Hatchet & Machete Used at Encampment Altercation

A Guelph man has been arrested following an incident earlier this summer in which another man had a hatchet thrown at him.

The early morning of July 30, police attended an address on Silvercreek Parkway North after a male flagged down a taxi driver to call police. Investigation revealed the victim had been at a nearby encampment when he was approached by a male known to him.

A verbal altercation took place before the second man pulled out a hatchet and threw it towards the victim, missing him. The victim fled to a nearby plaza but the other man followed and confronted him a second time while holding the hatchet and a machete and uttered death threats. The victim was not physically injured.

On Wednesday evening a 44-year-old Guelph man was located downtown and arrested for two counts of assault with a weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and uttering death threats. He will appear in court November 8.
