A late-night smash on Janefield Avenue set off a search that stretched into the next day. Security footage helped piece together what really happened after the driver vanished from the scene.
A Guelph man was arrested after fleeing a single-vehicle crash Friday night.
Just before 8 p.m. Friday, police were called to Janefield Avenue and Torch Lane after the driver of a white pickup lost control, left the road and slammed into a hydro pole. The driver was seen getting into the passenger seat of another vehicle and leaving the area.
Security video from a nearby home showed the truck travelling at a high rate of speed before the driver lost control, drove across a sidewalk and hit the pole.
On Saturday evening the owner of the truck was located and arrested. A 32-year-old Guelph man is charged with dangerous driving and failing to remain. He will appear in court January 6.
