Impaired Arrest Following Collision with School Bus

A Guelph woman faces impaired driving charges following a three-vehicle collision Wednesday morning which involved a school bus.

Approximately 7:40 a.m. police were dispatched to the area of Imperial Road North and Massey Road. A caller indicated he was rear-ended, pushing his car into a stopped school bus. Fortunately there were no students on the bus and no injuries were reported.

While speaking to one of the drivers, an officer detected an odour of alcohol and saw an empty beer can beside the driver’s seat. The driver failed a roadside breath test and was transported to the police station, where tests indicated she had more than five times the legal limit of alcohol in her system.

A 23-year-old Guelph woman is charged with impaired driving and dangerous driving. Her licence was suspended for 90 days and her vehicle was impounded for seven days. She will appear in court March 26.

The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to always consume alcohol and cannabis responsibly. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home. Anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver is asked to immediately call 911.
