Two Guelph men are charged with impaired driving following separate incidents on the weekend.
Just after 5:30 p.m. Saturday a resident of Cole Road reported her vehicle had been struck while parked on the road and the other driver fled. She said another car was stopped in the middle of the road and then abruptly accelerated, striking a snowbank and then hitting her car. The driver left in his car without reporting the collision.
Officers located the involved vehicle in a nearby driveway and noted fresh damage. They spoke to the owner and observed a strong odour of alcohol on his breath and signs of impairment. He was arrested and transported to the police station, where tests confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system. A 25-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving and failing to stop after an accident.
Approximately 11:30 p.m. Sunday police received information about an intoxicated male leaving an east-end business. Officers located the vehicle in a nearby driveway and spoke to a male who matched the description provided.
He was arrested and transported to the police station, where he repeatedly refused to provide a breath sample. A 38-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving and failing to provide a breath sample.
Both drivers had their licenses suspended for 90 days and their vehicles impounded for seven days.
