A Guelph male faces a list of charges after a break-in suspect was found Saturday morning passed out in a stolen vehicle.
Approximately 7:45 a.m. police were notified of a male slumped over in a running vehicle parked on Ontario Street. Officers recognized the vehicle as one involved in a break and enter earlier the same morning in which a window was broken at the Wilson Street Parkade.
The male was awakened by officers and immediately showed signs of impairment, including an inability to stay awake. An officer trained in drug recognition determined the male’s ability to operate a vehicle was impaired by drugs.
A search subsequent to arrest revealed controlled substances, drug paraphernalia and a wallet with identity documents in several names. The vehicle was determined to have been stolen earlier the same morning from a business downtown.
A 34-year-old Guelph male is charged with break and enter, operation while impaired, possessing controlled substances, several counts of possessing stolen property and two counts of breaching court orders. He was held for a bail hearing Wednesday.
