Impaired Charge After Traffic Stop

A Guelph man is charged with impaired driving following a traffic stop Thursday night.

Approximately 10:45 p.m. a vehicle was observed leaving a licensed establishment near Victoria Road South and York Road without a turn signal. A short time later the driver failed to move to the right for an ambulance with its emergency lights activated and a traffic stop was conducted.

The driver had an odour of alcohol on his breath. After failing a roadside test he was transported to the police station where further tests confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

A 51-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving. His license was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court June 25.

The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to always consume alcohol and cannabis responsibly. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home. Anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver is asked to immediately call 911.
