A Guelph male faces an impaired driving charge following a driving complaint Monday evening.
Approximately 8:40 p.m. police received a report of an SUV speeding in the area of Paisley Road and the Hanlon Expressway. Officers attended the owner’s address and found a male still sitting in the driver’s seat. When he opened the door officers detected a strong odour of alcoholic beverage on his breath.
The male was showing signs of impairment and was arrested. He was transported to the police station, where breath tests showed he had nearly four times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
A 43-year-old Guelph male is charged with impaired operation. His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court October 31.
The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to always consume alcohol and cannabis responsibly. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home. Anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver is asked to immediately call 911.
