A Guelph male faces several charges following a hit and run Sunday evening.

Just before 9 p.m., a witness reported an SUV struck a parked vehicle in a plaza parking lot at Gordon Street and Clair Road East. The SUV was located a short time later and stopped. Officers observed fresh damage on the rear end.

While speaking to the driver, officers noted an odour of alcoholic beverage and other signs of impairment. He was transported to the police station, where testing confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

Investigation revealed the male is a suspended driver and also on bail with conditions including a prohibition from driving.

A 61-year-old Guelph male is charged with impaired operation, failing to stop at an accident, driving while prohibited and two counts of breaching a release order. He was held for a bail hearing Monday.
