A Kitchener male faces impaired and stunt driving charges following a traffic stop in Guelph Thursday night.
Just before midnight, a member of the Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit was conducting speed enforcement on Woodlawn Road West when he clocked a vehicle travelling 106 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone. The vehicle was stopped and the officer immediately detected an odour of alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath.
The driver failed a roadside breath test and was taken to the police station, where further testing indicated he had more than twice the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
A 30-year-old Kitchener male is charged with impaired operation and stunt driving. His driver’s license was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 14 days. He will appear in court October 31.
The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to always consume alcohol and cannabis responsibly. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home. Anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver is asked to immediately call 911.
