Impaired Driver Crashes Mother’s Car, Almost Hits Firetruck
A Guelph man who crashed his mother’s car Wednesday after almost hitting a firetruck faces several charges, including impaired driving.
Just before 6 p.m. Wednesday, police were called for a collision near Delhi Street and Eramosa Road. A male driving on Delhi Street had swerved to avoid a firetruck and collided with a parked truck and utility trailer.
Officers spoke to the driver and observed signs of impairment, including slurred speech and an odour of alcohol on his breath. He was placed under arrest and transported to the police station, where testing revealed he had more than three times the legal amount of alcohol in his system. Investigation revealed the male has not had a valid driver’s license since 2006 and had taken his mother’s car without her knowledge.
A 43-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving, taking a motor vehicle without consent and driving without a license. He will appear in court January 19. His mother’s car was impounded for seven days.
