A Guelph woman faces impaired and stunt driving charges after she was caught Thursday afternoon driving nearly twice the speed limit.
Just after 2 p.m. a member of the Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit was patrolling near Gordon Street and Kortright Road when he clocked a black BMW travelling 94 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. The previous day, a male was also charged for Stunt Driving at the same speed in the same area.
The driver appeared anxious and was showing signs of impairment. She failed a roadside breath test and was transferred to the police station, where further testing revealed she had three times the legal amount of alcohol in her system.
A 23-year-old Guelph woman is charged with impaired driving, stunt driving and speeding. Her licence was suspended for 90 days and her vehicle was impounded for 14 days. She will appear in court November 24.
The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to always consume alcohol and cannabis responsibly. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home. Anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver is asked to immediately call 911.
