Severe Ice Storm Causes Widespread Damage in Barrie and Orillia

This spring storm brought hours of freezing rain, leading to thick layers of ice accumulating on trees and power lines. In Barrie, over 35,000 customers lost power. Ice-covered branches broke under pressure, taking down hydro lines, damaging homes, and blocking roadways. Fires were reported in several areas due to fallen live wires.

In Orillia, the city declared a state of emergency. Residents dealt with unsafe roads, collapsed trees, and extended power outages. Emergency warming centers were opened and cleanup crews were quickly deployed.
