Knife Pulled on University Employee; Breaching Probation

A Guelph man faces assault and weapons charges after a University of Guelph employee had a knife pulled on her Thursday.

Approximately 1:30 p.m. police received a call about a suspicious male on campus. When an employee questioned the male about ownership of a bicycle, he pulled out a knife and waved it at her while uttering threats.

Members of the Campus Safety Office attended and detained the male, seizing a yellow-handled box cutter as well as an ice cream maker determined to have been stolen from a nearby business a short time before.

Guelph Police Service officers arrived and continued the arrest. The male was transported to the police station, where he was uncooperative and threatened to harm one of the officers.

A 41-year-old Guelph man is charged with assault with a weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, two counts of uttering threats, theft under $5,000, possessing stolen property and two counts of breaching a probation order. He was held for a bail hearing Friday.
