Liberal Government’s Own Report Warns Canada on Track for 2040 Economic and Social Collapse

An internal federal government report predicts a grim future for Canada, warning that by 2040, the country could face a collapse of social mobility, growing class divides, and widespread economic hardship.

The report, titled Future Lives: Social Mobility in Question, was published by Policy Horizons Canada, a federal government foresight organization. It outlines the possibility that if current trends continue, Canadians may soon live in a society where upward social mobility is nearly impossible, and opportunities to build a better life largely disappear.

According to the report, wealth inequality is rising steadily, and traditional pathways to advancement such as post-secondary education are losing their effectiveness. In the projected future, only the wealthiest families would be able to afford higher education, using it primarily to maintain their existing social status. Homeownership, already out of reach for many, is expected to become an inheritance-based privilege, further widening the gap between renters and property owners.

The report also highlights that social classes will become increasingly isolated, both physically and digitally. Dating apps and online platforms may reinforce class divisions, limiting personal and professional networking opportunities across social strata. As a result, forming relationships or building careers through connections will become increasingly difficult.

Artificial intelligence and automation are also expected to diminish the value of human labour, reducing employment opportunities and intensifying economic pressures on the middle and lower classes.

Facing declining living standards, some Canadians may turn to grassroots methods to survive, including foraging and hunting wildlife to feed their families. Meanwhile, faith in government and large institutions to meet basic needs could erode significantly, according to the report.

If these trends are not addressed, Canada could see a return to a society structured around inherited wealth and entrenched privilege, resembling historical models of land-baron aristocracy, the report concludes.
