Loaded Gun, Drugs and Cash Seized During Search

Six people were arrested after Guelph Police Service officers recovered a loaded handgun, cocaine and more than $5,000 in cash from a west-end home Wednesday.

Earlier this month, the Break Enter Auto Theft Unit received information which caused it to begin a criminal investigation. Wednesday afternoon officers executed a search warrant at a home near Willow Road and Applewood Crescent.

A search of the residence revealed a loaded Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun with an extended magazine, a small amount of cocaine and more than $5,000 in cash.

Several of those in the residence are on terms not to associate with each other. Three Guelph men, two Guelph women and a man from Kitchener face charges including possession of a firearm, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possessing proceeds of crime, possessing a controlled substance and breaching court orders. All were held for bail hearings Thursday.

“I would like to thank our members for their hard work and dedication during the course of this investigation,” said Guelph Police Service Chief Gord Cobey. “Working together with our community and partner agencies, we will continue in our efforts to hold accountable those who choose to jeopardize the safety of our citizens by bringing these illegal weapons into our city.”
