Male Arrested for Setting Business on Fire with People Inside

On May 24th, 2024, just before 4:46pm, an adult male entered a business located near the intersection of Waterloo Avenue and Edinburgh Road South in the City of Guelph.

The male was upset regarding previous experiences with the business. He proceeded to dump gasoline from a jerrycan on the carpeted area of the lobby and ignited it on fire causing flames to reach the ceiling.

Everyone inside the business were able to exit safely through a rear door without sustaining any injury.


The Guelph Fire Department attended on scene to extinguish the fire.

At 9:49pm, police found the male leaving a residence located near the intersection of Eramosa Road and Victoria Road North. He was subsequently arrested.

A 46-year-old Guelph male has been charged with:

  • Arson – Disregard For Human Life
  • Arson – Damage To Property

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing on May 27th.
