Male Passed Out in Running Vehicle Arrested for Impaired

A Guelph man is charged with impaired driving after he was found Thursday morning passed out in a running vehicle.

Approximately 8:40 a.m. police were called to a plaza near Gordon Street and Wellington Street after staff of a business reported a male had been asleep in a vehicle for three hours.

Officers arrived and spoke to the male, who had poor concentration and slow movements. He was observed to be trying to hide a small baggie containing prescription tranquilizers.

The male was arrested and transported to the police station, where an officer trained in drug recognition determined the male’s ability to operate a vehicle was impaired.

A 22-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired operation. His driver’s license was suspended for 90 days and his father’s vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court May 21.
