Man Arrested After Brief Police Pursuit

A Guelph man faces several charges after fleeing police during an attempted traffic stop Thursday morning.

Approximately 7:20 a.m. an officer was patrolling on Niska Road when he observed a pick-up truck dangerously passing several other vehicles as they approached the crest of a hill, then swerving back into its own lane to avoid oncoming traffic.

The officer activated his emergency lights and attempted to pull the truck over on Whitelaw Road. The driver initially pulled over, but then abruptly sped away. The truck was eventually stopped at Whitelaw and Fife roads.

A 35-year-old Guelph man is charged with dangerous driving, flight from police and several Highway Traffic Act offences. He was held for a bail hearing Friday.
