Man Arrested After Skid Steer Rented, Never Returned

A Hanover man faces a theft charge after equipment valued at approximately $40,000 was rented from a Guelph business and never returned.

On January 31, police were contacted by staff of a local business who indicated a man had rented a skid steer, trailer and jackhammer last July. The items were to be returned a month later but staff never heard from the man again.

On February 1, store staff said the GPS on the skid steer was showing at a construction site in Hamilton. Officers attended and spoke to workers, who said the male who rented the equipment had stopped showing up for work and they had no way to contact him.

Officers were able to contact him by phone and Wednesday he turned himself in. A 37-year-old Hanover man is charged with theft over $5,000. He will appear in court April 9.
