Man Arrested Downtown on Assault and Weapons Charges
A Guelph man faces assault and weapons charges after staff of a downtown business overheard two men talking about being pepper sprayed Tuesday.
Shortly before 12:30 p.m., staff at a downtown business called police after overhearing a conversation between two men. One of them claimed to have been pepper sprayed by the other.
Officers checked the area and located one of the men, who was placed under arrest after initially trying to flee on foot. A canister of pepper spray was located on his person. The other man was not located.
While being transported to the police station the suspect threatened officers, later spitting at one of them while being removed from the cruiser.
A 51-year-old Guelph man is charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and uttering threats. He will appear in court February 20.
